Bettie Witherspoon - Obituary

ettie Porter Witherspoon was born on September 6, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA.She died February 13, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of natural causes. Bettie was a 36 yr. resident of Edgewater, MD, previously she lived in Bethesda, MD for 17 yrs. She graduated from the University of MD in 1941 with Degrees in English & Bacteriology. She was a bacteriologist in the D.C. area, mostly at Children's Hospital, earlier in her life but was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed doing volunteer work, especially at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was a member of Mayo United Methodist Church in Edgewater, MD. She was a history buff who was especially fond of the Civil War era and the Chesapeake Bay region. She loved her family and friends and they loved her. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred Lee Witherspoon, Jr. who died on August 9, 1997; beloved mother of Glenn P. Witherspoon of Thousand Oaks, CA and Fred Lee Witherspoon, III of Northridge, CA. Also survived by 2 grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2008, at 4:00 PM at Mayo United Methodist Church, 1005 Old Turkey Point Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment private.
