etty Louise “Betty Lou” Hayes, 75, a lifetime resident of Annapolis, died on September 27, 2014 at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood, MD. Born on August 7, 1939 in Annapolis to the late Rudy and Mary Lou Miller, Betty Lou received a B.S. degree from Towson University, an M.Ed. degree from the University of Maryland and an M.B.A. degree from Loyola University. She worked for the Anne Arundel Board of Education for 32 years, serving first as a teacher for 4 years and then as a principal for the remainder of her career. She later worked for 10 years at AIG as a Senior Financial Representative.
Betty Lou was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis and a member of the school’s Alumni Association and School Board. She was recognized as one of the St. Mary’s Distinguished Alumni. She was also a member of the Severn School Board and President of MAESA as well as the Calvert County Jaycees. Betty Lou enjoyed Bible Study, dancing, yoga, traveling, swimming, water skiing, kayaking and spending time in Bethany Beach. Most of all, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty Lou is survived by her husband, William Hayes; one son, Steven Hayes of Severna Park; and two grandchildren, Luke and Lily Hayes.
A Memorial Mass will be offered for Betty Lou at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment private.
