Betty Reid - Obituary

etty Harris Reid, 79, an 18 year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD and previously of Frederick, MD died at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD on November 12, 2008 of cancer. Born, December 19, 1928 in Morgantown, WV, to the late Minnie Pethtel & Benjamin Franklin Harris, she graduated from Morgantown High School in 1946. She was employed when she was younger as a telephone operator and later in banking for 10 years, she was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of Morgantown Service League, five different hospital auxiliaries, founded an after school program for at risk youth in Newark, OH in the 1960's; served as assistant treasurer at All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick, MD and active in My Brother's Keeper and quilting group at St. Stephen's. She was an avid fan of WVU football and enjoyed flower arranging, talking to her friends and dancing. She was the beloved wife of the late Roberts Schell Reid, who died in 1993 and whom she married in 1948; mother of Rev. Schelly Reid-Levy of Edgewater, MD and Cuba, MO; mother in law of Steven A. Levy. Friends are invited to Mrs. Reid's Life Celebration on Sunday, November 16 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17 at 11am at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1110 St. Stephens Church Road, Crownsville, MD. Interment will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown, WV.
