etty LaRue Robins née Barnum, 76, a longtime resident of Bowie, MD, and previously of North Yorkshire, England, died of Alzheimer's disease on March 28, 2024, at LaCasa Assisted Living in Annapolis, MD. Born January 11, 1948, in Oklahoma City, OK, Betty received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Oklahoma. Throughout her teaching career, she was employed with Anne Arundel Public Schools and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools. Betty was a member of Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis and the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC). She enjoyed needle crafts and traveling internationally. Betty is survived by her devoted husband, James P. Robins; two daughters, Monica Mewshaw of Arnold, MD and Kimberly Dressler of Robbinsville, NJ; three siblings, Eugene Barnum of Houston, TX, Thomas Barnum of Norman, OK, and Marsha Thagard of Broken Arrow, OK; and four grandchildren, Nathan C. and Aubrey E. Dressler of Robbinsville, NJ, and Caden J. and Blake Mewshaw of Arnold, MD. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life on Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Maryland. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12 pm at Weems Creek Baptist Church, 600 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association,225 N.
