Betty Schmitt - Obituary

argaret Hardesty Schmitt, better known as Betty, passed away on October 31, 2024, in her home in Harwood, Maryland where she resided for the last 15 years. Prior to that, Betty resided in Edgewater for approximately 55 years. Betty suffered an intracranial hemorrhage after a fall 2 weeks prior to her death. Betty was born on December 17, 1926, in Annapolis, Maryland. She was a high school graduate and worked for the Board of Education as an accounting clerk for 20 years. Betty was a member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church and served on numerous church committees over the years. She also enjoyed canning and freezing her home-grown fruits and vegetables. Betty is survived by her husband, Adam W. Schmitt, of 15 years; her daughter, Peggi Michaels of Odenton; her son, Howard Hardesty of Edgewater; 3 grandchildren, Preston Bembe of Severna Park, Richard Bembe of Westminster, and Alison Mascetti of Stevensville, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Betty’s parents, Edward H. Dougherty and Caroline E. Doughtery are both deceased. There will be a viewing at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on November 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Davidsonville United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on November 6. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Davidsonville United Methodist Church’s Building Fund, 819 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, Maryland 21035.
