Beverly K King - Obituary

B

everly K. King, 74, a resident of Riva for 50 years, died peacefully at her home on January 1, 2021. The daughter of Bessie Keller and the late William Keller Sr., Beverly was born on July 18, 1946, in Hillsdale, MI. She grew up in Concord, NC, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She later earned a master’s degree from Loyola University Maryland. Beverly married the love of her life, William “Bill” King, in 1966 and began her professional journey as an Anne Arundel County Public Schools educator in 1967. Her long and rewarding career started as a teacher at Edgewater Elementary School. She brought the joy of reading to students at numerous elementary schools before serving as a reading specialist at Walter S. Mills Parole Elementary School until her retirement in 2014. Beverly shared her educational talents in the years prior to her retirement and beyond. She tutored children in reading and worked to implement an early literacy initiative in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She was proud of her volunteer service at CrossRoads Child Development Center to bring the power of education to all children she met. She was a member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church for 46 years, where she volunteered as a Sunday School instructor and served those in need. Beverly was an avid University of North Carolina “Tarheel” fan who also enjoyed reading, gardening, and baking. She was the family caretaker, and she cultivated a unique bond with each of her children and grandchildren. Beverly was extraordinarily proud of her five daughters, and many of her happiest days were spent with her husband, Bill, while surrounded by her girls, her grandchildren, family, and friends. Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, William “Bill” King, five daughters, Michele (Doyle) Batten, Dawn (Glenn) Noyes, Jeanne (Kyle Hefner) King, Angela (Jon) Hopkins, and Lauren (Jerry) Fiesler; her mother, Bessie Keller; and seven grandchildren, Evan, Makenzie, Rhett, Kacey, Trent, Lena, and Ross.
