Bhaguri Makhijani - Obituary

haguri G. Makhijani Bhaguri “Bhagi” G. Makhijani, a 15 month resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park, and previously of Bowie, Maryland, died at her home on Sunday August 31, 2008 of natural causes. She was 85. Bhagi was born on February 27, 1923 in Karachi, India, to the late Tikamdas and Radha Munsukhani. While in India she received a college degree in Education. Bhagi was one of 12 children. Her father was the 2nd mayor of Karachi, India, prior to the partition of Pakistan and India. She left her family in India in 1957 after having an arranged marriage to raise her family in America. She was a member of the Sindhi Association of Washington as well as the Women's International Club of Bowie. Bhagi enjoyed cooking, traveling, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. Bhagi was predeceased by her husband Gobind P. Makhijani, who died on June 15, 2006. They were married on March 12, 1955. She is survived by her daughters Bina Peterson and her husband Don of Riva Maryland and Shobha Whitacre and her husband Lynn of Severna Park, MD her brothers Arjan and Prem Mansukhani, both of Northampton, England and her sister Padma Chainani of Mumbai, India. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, Diana, Danny and Drew Peterson and Nicholas and Colin Whitacre. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 2, 2008 at 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bhagi's memory to the Arthritis Foundation P.O.
