illy "Bill" Henry passed away surrounded by family on August 17, 2024, at the age of 87 in Edgewater, Maryland. Born on December 24, 1936, in Lexington, Kentucky, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his passions. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who left a legacy of honor, integrity, and self-discipline. Bill graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY before joining the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years and retired in 1980 at the rank of Major. He was the Company Commander for Golf Company during the Vietnam War and maintained a close bond with those he led in battle through annual reunions. Bill had a decorated military career and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross with Palm and Frame. During his time in the Marines, he also worked to achieve a Bachelor's degree from San Diego State University and a Master's degree from the University of Southern California. Bill’s passions included art and military history. His artistic talents were evident in his detailed painting of military miniature figures, winning many awards over the years. Bill was also an original docent at the National Museum of the Marine Corps where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with visiting guests for over 12 years. He was also an enthusiastic participant in the North-South Skirmisher Association, engaging in many national team shooting competitions. A longtime member of the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Bill carried his Christian faith throughout his life. Bill was predeceased by his father Charles Henry, his mother Colleen Henry, and his loving wife of 52 years, Judith Henry. He leaves behind a legacy through his children, son Billy Henry Jr. and wife Cathy, and daughter Danna Hewick and boyfriend Israel DeLeon. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Bradley Hewick and wife Rachel, Cassidy Ricono and husband Greg, Christopher Henry and wife Taylor, Cecilia Miller and husband Andrew, and Jonathan Henry, as well as his great-grandchildren, Rhett, Seth, Owen, Raelynn, Hudson, and Jeremiah. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on December 19, 2024, at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035. A graveside service will follow at 3 pm at Arlington National Cemetery. Attendees are asked to meet at the Administration Building at 2:15 pm.
