ishop Monroe S. Martin
Bishop Monroe S. Martin, 64, a two year resident of Lothian, MD departed this life on the evening of November 26, 2008 of lung cancer.
Born July 4, 1943 in Holly Springs, Mississippi, he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from Hampton University. He also attended the Ambassador College of Theology in Washington, D.C. He was employed at Black Hawk Security in Potomac, MD. He served in the United States Army with an honorable discharge. He was a Bishop in the Baptist church. Monroe was humorous, caring and a loving person who enjoyed watching old western movies and listening to gospel music.
Monroe was a dedicated husband, a very hard worker, and served his country in the US Army as well as the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Bertha Martin of Lothian, MD; father of Mike D. and Monroe Martin, both of Washington, D.C., and Andree' Renee' Martin - Reed of Maryland and the late Darrell and Andr'ee Martin. Monroe is also survived by a host of brothers, sisters, one son-in-law, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Bishop Martin's Life Celebration on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 6 until time of funeral service at 7pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
