enjamin O Delaney, Jr., “Bodie”, a 45-year resident of Annapolis, passed away on March 21, 2023 following a 3-month illness. He was 78. Born on August 6, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to the late Nina and Benjamin O. Delaney, Bodie graduated from Sherwood High School in Ashton, MD and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Tennessee University in Johnson City, TN. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving as a 1st Lieutenant and Platoon Leader in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division. He earned two Bronze Stars with Valor and the Air Medal for heroic acts during flight combat. After his discharge, Bodie pursued a successful banking career with Annapolis Federal and as President of Citizens Savings Bank. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Royal Blue Club in Annapolis, the Southern Maryland Society, Annapolis Yacht Club and Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, FL. He was also President of the Village Homeowners Association. Bodie enjoyed sailing, boating, hunting, golfing, skiing and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Bodie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Delaney; two sons, Benjamin Delany III (Kara) of Osterville, MA and Timothy Delaney (Jenn) of Arnold, MD; one daughter, Erin Delaney Brimhall (Billy) of Annapolis, MD; two sisters, Dabney Leonard (Ron) of Fairfax Station, VA and Susan Pyles (David) of Vero Beach, FL and seven grandchildren, Bo IV, Laine, Harper, Teagan, William, Delaney and James. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered for Bodie at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis at 10:30am on Friday, March 31. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Schools, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. Condolences may be made by using the Memories tab on this page.
