Bonnie Sue Martin - Obituary

B

onnie Sue Martin of Annapolis, MD passed away after a long battle with cancer on July 5, 2022. She was known for her bold style, her iconic red hair, and her way of bringing out the joy in people. She was a loving and affectionate mother, a beloved sister and aunt, a die-hard friend, and the life of many parties. Our Bonbon always had music playing. She was born Bonnie Tiktin in Rockland County, New York in 1958. She is the youngest of four girls – one minute younger than her identical twin. She moved to Baltimore at 16, and later lived and worked in Washington, D.C., Pasadena, Annapolis, New Orleans, and the Virgin Islands. She traveled to the Caribbean, Europe, and Mexico. While she worked multiple administrative and hospitality jobs throughout her life, her jobs were not what most defined her. Bonnie was frequently found at Jazzfest in New Orleans, Stan and Joe’s on Main Street, the Eastport Democratic Club, the Cat’s Eye, or frankly, anywhere live music was playing. She was a regular at many downtown Annapolis bars. She has never willingly paid cover. Bonnie loved watching football, dancing, music, getting a good deal, and being with her family and friends. Many of her friends were lifelong: people she had known since childhood or high school. Others were people she had met this year, while waiting in line for a bathroom. Her good friends had boats, and she always invited her other best friends on them. This circle of friends and family supported her through several years of treatments; sharing food, laughter, music, and their own time right up until her last day. Bonnie is survived by her two sons, Matt and Ian; two grandchildren, Killian and Frida; three sisters, Joanne, Donna, and Rochelle; her boyfriend Gary, and many, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, coworkers, artists, and bartenders. She was irreplaceable, and her memory will light their way. A celebration in memory of Bonnie will be held from 3-8PM on September 24. Please contact the family for further details. Please leave a condolence for the family by signing the guestbook at the Memories tab on the left side of this page.
