Brenda Doreen Sprungle - Obituary

renda Doreen Sprungle passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was 83 years old. Born in Walsall, England, on April 9, 1935, Brenda was the daughter of the late John and Harriet (Hunt) Rooker. Brenda moved from England to Annapolis, MD, in 1965. She was married to the late Sergeant Major James Robert Sprungle Jr., USMC, for 24 years until his death in 1990. Brenda worked for over 20 years at Woodward & Lothrop (“Woodies”) department store as a sales associate in Annapolis. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, reading, volunteering for the Annapolis Visitor Center, attending classes at the Annapolis Senior Citizen Center and most of all spending time with her family. She was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire Club and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis for over 50 years. Brenda is survived by her daughter, Mary (Thane) Gilman and son James III (Jenny) of Annapolis, MD; and grandchildren Elizabeth and Catherine Gilman, and Clare, Mary Catherine, and James Sprungle IV. Friends are invited to celebrate Brenda's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday, February 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD on Monday, February 11 at 9 AM.
