E

nrique Palangdao, Sr., also known as “Dad,” “Grandpa,” “Uncle Ric” or “Manong Ric” to family and friends, transitioned on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, surrounded by family. On track to be a priest in the Philippines, he left the seminary after he met and married the love of his life, Nina. He became a proud member of the U.S. Navy and served his country as a Vietnam War veteran. Enrique, his wife Nina and their three young children, Charles, Jimmy, and Germaine, left the Philippines and immigrated to the United States. His youngest and fourth child, Enrique Jr., marked the first generation of the Palangdao family to be born in the United States. Enrique’s pursuit of the American dream, the Asian dream, the Filipino American dream that comprise U.S. citizenship, home ownership and college education for his children and successive generations were accomplished. He and his family became naturalized U.S. citizens, Enrique, his wife, and his children achieved home ownership, and his children and grandchildren graduated from the University of Maryland College Park, George Mason University, Stratford University and Towson University. Enrique was most proud and happy to see the 3rd generation, his great-granddaughter Lila, off to the University of Miami last year, where she is continuing her studies and planning for graduate school. Enrique is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nina, his children, Charles (Kaye), Jimmy, Germaine; his four grandchildren, Geneva, Desiree, Tyler, Dominique; his great-granddaughter Lila; his siblings Sister Gracia and Leon, Jr., and an almost incalculable number of nieces and nephews in the Philippines, United States and around the world. Enrique was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lucia Palangdao, his sister Linda, and his youngest and beloved son, Enrique Palangdao, Jr. His celebration of life information is noted below.
