Carl Franklin Catlin - Obituary

arl Franklin Catlin, Jr., 80, a 31-year resident of Annapolis, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood. Carl was born on August 21, 1936 in Washington, D.C. to the late Carl, Sr. and Laura Catlin. He was a 1954 graduate of Suitland High School and served in the United States Air Force. Carl was an entrepreneur, owning a chain of beauty shops. In 1986, along with his wife Kay, he opened a beauty school named Hair Academy 1. In 2012, they opened a second location, Hair Academy 2. Carl was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club and attended Riva Trace Baptist Church. He was an avid Redskin fan and season ticket holder. He loved travelling, boating and spending time on the water, but his passion in life was working. Carl is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kay Catlin, his children; Dawn Catlin of Alexandria, Va., April Walker of Annapolis, MD, Kevin Blades of Seattle, WA, and the late Carl F. Catlin, III, his grandchildren; Macy Walker, Keith Pethel, Travis Blades, Nicholas and Alexandra Golden, and one great grandson, Carter Shores. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carl’s life on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 10 to 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037 where a funeral service will begin at 11am. Entombment at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville immediately following.
