Carol Burke - Obituary

C

arol Ann Wirt Burke Carol - wife, mother, friend, teacher, writer - left us on December 7th after a battle with cancer. She was woman of many accomplishments, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilson College in 1953 and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary in 1954. Carol had a lifelong love of music, art, and especially the written word, writing multiple travel articles and short stories and poems, some published. She taught grade and high school English for many years at West Nottingham Academy and at Annapolis High School, then college level courses at Anne Arundel Community College. Carol was involved in her community, founding the Heritage Harbour drama club and orchestrating its performances. She volunteered as a docent at Londontowne and sang in many choirs throughout her life. She gave generously to many charities, the ASPCA being one - she loved animals. We’ll remember Carol as a strong, independent woman with a soft side. She remained lifelong friends with many high school and college contemporaries, arranging reunions enjoyed by all that attended. One of her favorite television programs was Jeopardy. A note to a friend who also enjoyed the show ended with: Answer: Life and Love and Friends. Question: What is good and to be cherished always?
