arole P. Mattingly, “Pinky”, a 40 year resident of La Plata, MD, died on Thursday, February 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Pinky was born on December 22, 1933 in Washington, D.C, to the late Virgil and Katherine Painter. She received an AA Degree from Georgetown University in Paralegal Studies, and worked for Gordon and Barnett Patent Attorneys as a paralegal and retired in 2003 after 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church Chapel Point. Pinky loved to read and write, spend time with her family, especially at the beach. She was a good listener, and an avid Redskins fan. One of her special projects was taking books to the underprivileged children in Charles County and teaching them to read. Pinky was predeceased by her husband, James O. Mattingly, whom she married on December 27, 1952 and who died on April 23, 1982 and one brother John Dale Painter. She is survived by her children; Deborah Richmond of Swan Point, MD, Christine Hemming of Fredericksburg, VA, James Michael Mattingly and his wife Jacquelyn, of Edgewater, Kathleen Loverin of La Plata and Joseph M. Mattingly and his wife Diana of Towson. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren. Friends are invited to Pinky’s Life Celebration on Sunday, March 3, from 2 to 5pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 4, at 11am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Chapel Point, 8855 Chapel Point Rd., Port Tobacco, MD 20677. Interment church cemetery.
