With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Carrie L. Tillman on December 4, 2024, in Maryland. Carrie was a beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend who brought love, strength, and grace to all who knew her. Born on September 11, 1944, in Round O, South Carolina, Carrie was the youngest child of Lewis Cochran Sr. and Bessie Murray Cochran. After graduating high school, Carrie moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she built a beautiful life. There, she met and married her late husband, Frank P. Tillman, and together they welcomed their daughter, Evetta Marie, whom they’ve always been so proud of. Two years after her husband’s passing, Carrie’s granddaughter, Janay Marie, was born in Philadelphia. Janay’s arrival brightened Carrie’s whole world, bringing her immense joy and purpose. A talented seamstress, Carrie worked creating uniforms for the military with care and precision. Her artistry extended to her family, as she lovingly crafted beautiful clothing for her daughter and granddaughter, ensuring that her girls were always impeccably dressed. Even during challenging times, Carrie’s resourcefulness and love shone through, providing for her family with unmatched devotion. In 2006, Carrie moved to Maryland where she continued to bring joy to their lives. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings: Deacon Lewis Cochran Jr. (Rosa), Lou Martha Cochran Smalls (William), Sarah Cochran Hernandez (Paul), and Retha Cochran Bodison (Joseph) and her beloved grand-dogs Hollywood and Tyson. Carrie lived the longest life among her four siblings, cherishing a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and dear friends. Her daughter, Evetta Marie Harold, and son-in-law, Lawrence Harold, along with her cherished granddaughter, Janay Marie James, step-grandson Kameron Harold, and two rambunctious grand-dogs, Czar and Zeus, were the joy of her life. Carrie will be remembered for her sweetness, her candid nature, and her unwavering love for her family. She lived her life with their needs in mind, always putting her daughter and granddaughter first. Carrie leaves a legacy of love, strength, and elegance that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
