Catherine Ann Fortwengler - Obituary

atherine Anne Fortwengler, a resident of Queenstown, MD and previously of Edgewater and Hillsmere, passed away peacefully at age 93 on August 11, 2023. She was born on December 1, 1929 in Washington, DC, and was a graduate of McKinley Tech, where she lettered in basketball. Catherine was a homemaker and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She loved her exercise classes, reading and boating around Annapolis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years in July, 2023, Victor Fortwengler and her son, Richard Fortwengler. She is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Ken) Smith of Oregon City, OR, Nancy (Tom) Meringolo of Centreville, MD and David Fortwengler of Gaffney, SC; daughter in law, Sheila Skipper, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Catherine’s life on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. A viewing will be held from 11am to 1pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Reception to follow.
