Catherine Gladmon - Obituary

atherine A. Gladmon, 89, a 6-month resident of Odenton and previously of Charles County and Riverdale, MD, died of leukemia at her home on September 1, 2010. Born August 8, 1921 in Fredericksburg, VA to the late George and Virginia Corbin, Catherine was one of 14 children. After finishing school, Catherine helped to support her family until she moved to Washington, DC where she met her husband, Harvey Gladmon. They were married on February 20, 1945. Catherine worked for the Woolworth Company in Georgetown, Hecht Company on F Street, A&P Grocery Store and finished her career at Briggs Meat Company in Landover, MD. She loved country music, travel and, most of all, spending time with her family. Catherine is predeceased by her husband, Harvey; two sons: Johnny Hammond and Larry Gladmon; and 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Chester of Odenton; one brother, Charles Corbin of Abell, MD and one sister, Dorothy White of Cleveland, TN. Also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Catherine’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037 on Friday, September 3, from 10AM until time of service at 11AM. Interment Washington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
