atherine “Kay” Theresa Riordan, 90, a resident of the Ginger Cove Life Care Community and previously of Heritage Harbour and District Heights, died February 5. Born on Christmas Day 1923 in Manhattan, NY to the late Lawrence and Katherine McElroy, Kay graduated from St. Michael’s High School and went to work for the telephone company. During World War II, she took a second, part-time job at the U.S. Post Office. In 1948, Kay married her teenage sweetheart, Martin John Riordan and they moved to the Washington, DC area. While raising her six children, Kay was an active member of Mt. Calvary Catholic Church in Forestville where she was a member of the Sodality and Ladies of Charity. Later, when she moved to Heritage Harbour, she became an active member of St. Mary’s and St. John Neumann Catholic Churches. She also was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and entertaining her and her children’s friends. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Marty. She is survived by six children, Sister Martin Joseph (formerly Eileen Riordan) of Ocean Grove, NJ, Michael Riordan of Deale, Kathleen (Tim) White of Crofton, Patrick (Genie) Riordan of Bishopville and Matthew and Martin Riordan, both of Churchton. She is also survived by five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
