ecelia Seletin “Ceil” Plante, a 6-year resident of Severn, MD and previously of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD, passed away at her home on May 7, 2023. She was 103 years old. Born on July 31, 1919 in Detroit, MI to the late Sophie and John Seletin, Ceil graduated from Prince George’s County Evening High School in 1964. She worked for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1954 until 1980. Ceil was proud of her Polish heritage and was a member of the National Alliance of The U.S. of N.A. and The Polish Club of College Park PNA Lodge 3191, Inc., serving as President in 1977 and polka dance instructor to the Polka Bells, a group of young girls and boys. She was also a member of the Severna Park United Methodist Church; Order of Eastern Star Maryland Chapter #29 since 1960; American Auxiliary Greenbelt Unit No. 136, Department of Maryland, Inc.; College Park Chapter No. 1262 Women of the Moose; and Knights of Columbus 2809 Prince Georges Council. In her younger years, Ceil enjoyed sewing, camping, horseback riding and archery. In her later years, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, ten-pin bowling and water aerobics. She loved polka dancing, was a member of Tommy Thomas Polka Pals and enjoyed traveling with the Maryland Polka Train to many polka events. From 2001 to 2015, she was also a member of the Spice of Life Dance Club. Ceil is survived by her loving daughter, Karen Marie Wolcott and son-in-law, Ronald Leon Shippee of Severn, MD; stepdaughter, Jeanette (Jennie) Plante Fitzpatrick; three step-grandchildren, Connor William and Ryan Michael Fitzpatrick and Kelly Nicole Plante; and four step-great-grandchildren, Darius Skylar Tucker and Caleb Micah, Kieara Lynn and Grace Anne Hall. In addition to her parents, Ceil was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 17 years, William Howard Plante, who passed way in 1999 and her former husband, James Birchard Wolcott. Friends are invited to celebrate Ceil’s life with her family from 3 until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Ceil’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 at the Severna Park United Methodist Church, Severna Park, MD. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
