C

eleste Carson Thurber, a twenty three years resident of Annapolis, died on Sunday, May 12 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born on July 19, 1934 in Knoxville, TN to the late Sam K. and Mary Celeste Holtsinger Carson, Celeste graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, TN and Sullins College in Bristol, VA. A member of the Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution, Celeste was also a volunteer at Historic London Town and a guide for Historic Annapolis. In her spare time she enjoyed American history, world travel and craft work. In addition to her parents, Celeste was preceded in death by her son, William S. Thurber and a brother, Sam K. Carson. She is survived by her husband, William C. Thurber, whom she married on November 23, 1957; two daughters, Susan Thurber Jones of Glen Ellyn, IL and Katrine Thurber Pendleton of Warrenton, VA; a sister, Carolyn Cornelius of Ponce Inlet, FL; three grandsons, Carson Candler and Holt Edward Jones both of Glen Ellyn, IL and Henry Hunter Pendleton of Warrenton, VA; four granddaughters, Sara Mae and Abigail Jane Thurber both of Warrington, PA, Daisy Louise Jones of Glen Ellyn, IL and Anne B. Pendleton of Warrenton, VA. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 18 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private.
