harlene Blanche Ferrell passed away on January 26, 2022, at the age of 91. The daughter of Spurgeon and Blanche Smith, Charlene was born on January 6, 1931, in Dothan, Alabama. She attended Midland City High School where she served as captain of the cheerleaders. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1949, was awarded membership in the National Beta Club for her academic achievement, and received a good citizenship award from The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Charlene married Charles Richard Ferrell April 13, 1950, and they shared fifty-five years together. She was devoted to her family, and any opportunity to spend time with them was important to her. Charlene was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who was loved is missed, and will always be cherished. Charlene enjoyed reading her Bible, singing in her church choir, and singing with her school glee club. As an avid gardener, Charlene loved flowers and working in her yard. She was an active volunteer in her community organizations, traveled extensively with her husband, spent countless hours in her kitchen preparing food to give to others, and was known for her kindness, loyalty, compassion, and generosity. Her cheerful attitude and radiant smile will be missed. She was a bright spark in this world. A long-time representative of Avon, Charlene was inducted into the Avon Products President’s Honor Society in 1984. She dedicated herself to excellence in everything she did. Charlene is survived by four children, Connie (Mike)Lohslof Riva, MD, Deborah (Joe) Perona of Riva, MD, Charles (Judy) Ferrell of Arnold, MD, and Rebecca (Scott) Cutler of Leesburg, FL; two brothers, Terry (Lyn) Smith and Mark Smith; two sisters, Margie (Henry) Haynes andSue (Scott) Brown; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband Charles Richard Ferrell; her parents, Spurgeon and Blanche Smith; and two brothers, Jerry and Simeon Smith. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
