harlene Rae Riley, 60, a resident of Edgewater for fourteen years and formerly of Harwood, died on Tuesday, August 4 from complications due to a long battle with lung cancer. Born on November 26, 1954 in Connecticut to the late Harold and Gertrude Hooper, Charlene grew up in Millersville, MD and earned a Master of Arts degree from the Professional Institute of Commercial Arts. She worked for the Department of the Army in the drug store at Ft. Meade, as a framer at Wimsey Cove Frame and Arts Shop in Edgewater and as a senior consultant with Thirty One. Charlene was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Annapolis Quilt Guild, the Southern Maryland Mustang Club and she was a supporter of many charities, such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Cancer Fund. She was an avid Redskins fan and loved NASCAR, especially Dale, Jr. Charlene is survived by her husband, Louis Riley, Jr.; her daughters, Victoria Hooper of Glen Burnie, Megan Hooper of Edgewater and Jessica Hooper of Shady Side; her siblings, Bryan (Janet) Hooper of Chesapeake Beach and Penelope McDonald of North Carolina and her grandchildren, Antonio Strong, Grayson Hooper, Jacob Coleman and Lexus and Mariah Wolfe. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Charlene's life from 6 to 8pm on Friday, August 7 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Funeral service and interment will be private.
