C

harles Stewart Evans, age 89, a lifelong resident of Riva, MD, died on Thursday, August 26 at his residence. Born on August 19, 1921 in Riva, MD to the late Arthur L. and Alice H. Evans, Charlie attended Annapolis High School and served as a Corporal in the United States Army with the 66th Armored Infantry Battalion during World War II. He worked as a construction superintendent and was the former Deputy Chief of the Riva Fire Department where, among other duties, he trained the Ladies Auxiliary to march in parades. Charlie was a member of the Anne Arundel County Farm Bureau, and in his spare time enjoyed fishing, crabbing, hunting and carving. He is survived by his wife Doris E. Evans; a daughter, Susan E. Brady of Davidsonville, MD; a sister, Virginia P. Hardesty of Davidsonville, MD; a grandson, Bryan C. Brady and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur C. and Robert Y. Evans. Friends are invited to Charlie’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Sunday, August 29 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Service and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to the Riva Volunteer Fire Department, 3123 Riva Road, Riva, MD 21140.
