Charles E. Hendrick - Obituary

harles E. Hendrick, 98, a resident of Annapolis, MD and previously Gaithersburg, MD, died on March 19, 2021. Born in Germantown, PA to the late John and Helen Hendrick, he was a 1941 graduate of St. John the Baptist Boys Catholic High School in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, PA, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. Charles, also known affectionately as “Chal” by family, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in November 1942. He flew 35 combat missions over Europe as a flight engineer in a B17 as part of the “Flying Fortress” during 1944 and 1945. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1949 with a B.A. in business and public administration. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. His business career spanned 42 years in the retail furniture business in the Washington metro area. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Birch Hendrick; five children, Christine (Thomas) Reese, Carol Lindsey, Teresa (Thomas) Coffman, Martin Hendrick, and Daniel (Elizabeth) Hendrick; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
