harles M. "Charlie" Huntington, 94, a thirteen year resident of Edgewater and previously of Gaithersburg died of heart failure Sunday, June 8 at Mandrin Inpatient Care Center. Born May 28, 1920 in Hughesville, Charlie was one of eighteen children and went on to serve in the US Army during WWII where he was a decorated war hero, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross. In his spare time he enjoyed duck carving, painting birds and playing the violin.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jessie G. Huntington; one son, Charles (Vickie) Huntington of WV; one daughter, Nancy (John) Peach of Davidsonville; eleven brothers and sisters; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, June 13 from 10am until a funeral service begins at 12pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Interment MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Mid Atlantic Community Church, 2134 Espey Ct., Ste. 15, Crofton, MD 21114.
