harles E. Lewis, Jr., 78, a resident of Lusby, MD died on Thursday, July 27 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family. He was born on September 17, 1944 in Swanton, MD to the late Marion Louise Herman and Charles E. Lewis, Sr. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette Patricia Dishman Lewis; his siblings, Roger Dean Lewis, Naomi June Schleig, Anna Imogene Fluharty, Ellen Louise Standish, and Shirley Virginia Calhoun and his step-granddaughter, Nicole Marie Newman. Charles graduated from Bruce High School in Westernport, MD in 1962. He enlisted in the Army 1964 and served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967 as a heavy truck driver for the 534th Trans Co. he received his Honorable Discharge in 1971 and also received several recommendations from the Department of the Army. Charles returned from Vietnam and went to work at The Architect of the Capital for 30 years and retiring in 2001. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #274 Lusby, MD. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved the Washington Redskins. He loved swinging on his porch at home. He always greeted people by saying “Happy Birthday” even if he knew you or not. Chuck will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Lewis Napier (Kevin); his grandchildren, Megan Napier Stanton (Stephen) and Kevin Napier, Jr. (Jacquelyn); his great-grandsons, Stephen Stanton, III, Brandon Stanton, and Kevin Napier, III; his step-daughter, Brendalee Trentham (Eric); his step-granddaughters, Sky Marie Stonestreet (Steven), Lindsey Marie Trentham and Angelina Marie Falcone; his step-great-grandchildren, Hunter Tyler and Autumn Nicole Stonestreet. Sisters Joy Faye Kirby and Carol Sue Revoir (Clifford). Friends are invited to celebrate Charles’s life on Monday, August 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at 12 pm. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD. Condolences may be made by using the Memories tab on this page.
