Charles Murphy - Obituary

harles “Charlie” Augustine Murphy, age 69, a 15-year resident of Churchton, MD, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at his home of cancer after a 2-year illness. Born December 28, 1939 in Benedict, MD to the late Bernard and Catherine Murphy, he graduated from LaPlata High School in 1957. Mr. Murphy served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He retired in 1998 after 31 years of service with PEPCO as a mechanical supervisor at the Chalk Point Power Plant. Charles enjoyed genealogy, photography, golf, matchbook collecting, bird watching and was a civil war buff. He was the beloved husband of Carol E. Murphy; devoted father of Dawn (Mike) Marshall and Christopher (Alisa) and Troy (Amber) Murphy; brother of Mary Ann Barnes, Katie Gatley, Susan Fruege, Mary Ann King, Linda Roland, Francis “Danny” Murphy, Robert Williams and the late Joseph Murphy and Harry "Sonny" Williams. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Friends are invited to Charles' Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Saturday, October 24 from 12pm until time of service beginning at 2pm. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at a later date.
