harles Albert Pell, 93, of Edgewater, MD passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Charles was born to the late Charles and Elizabeth Pell on October 29, 1924, in Washington, DC. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theatre earning his rifle parachutist’s badge, combat infantry badge, and glider badge. Upon returning to the states, Charles married Christine Elizabeth “Betty” Davis on October 5, 1945. He was a master plumber with George F. Warner Plumbing Company for 46 years until he retired in 1992. During his youth, Charles was a lightweight golden gloves boxer, a minor league baseball catcher, and a duckpin bowler. He was a coach and officer in the Forestville Boys Club. In his retired years, he devoted most of his time as a trustee at Mayo United Methodist Church and served on many committees he was also a member of the American Legion Post 226.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Jaden Daniel Young. Charles is survived by his wife of 72 years, Christine “Betty” Pell; his children, Bobby (Kim) Pell of Edgewater, Jimmy (Linda) Pell of Herndon, VA, Jackie (Danny) Young of Edgewater and Bev (Bill) McCloskey of Edgewater; sisters Margaret Reed of California and Henrietta Jones of Edgewater, five grandchildren, Jared Pell, Lindsay Burns, Courtney Mullins, Danielle Bender and Jenna Welle; and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 1 PM at Mayo United Methodist Church, 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mayo United Methodist Church.
