Charles A. Rader - Obituary

harles "Charlie" Rader, 86, of Turkey Point Island, Edgewater, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, due to long-term effects of heart disease. Born September 30, 1932, in Washington, D.C., he graduated from the University of Maryland. Charlie served in the U.S. Army for five years. He was employed for nearly 40 years with The Gillette Company, retiring in 1998 as Research Director. Much of his career was spent on research on the safety and efficiency of personal care products. He was a member of the Chemical Society of Washington, the American Chemical Society, the Fiber Society and the Washington Academy of Sciences. Charles enjoyed fishing, gardening, Washington Nationals Baseball, NASCAR, and University of Maryland athletics. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole; three children, Bill, Steve and Sue; a son-in-law, Wayne; three grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara. Friends are invited to celebrate Charles' life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, December 27 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28 at 11 am. Interment private.
