harles Joseph "Charlie" Smith, 66, a lifelong resident of Upper Marlboro, MD died of heart failure on June 13, 2016, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Born on August 11, 1949, at Prince George's Hospital in Cheverly, MD, Charlie graduated from high school and worked for Prince George's County for twenty-five years. He also was a volunteer firefighter for more than forty years with the Upper Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed playing softball. He is survived by his sons, Charles J. Smith, Jr. of Richmond, VA and Craig Smith of Cumberland, MD; his sister Millie Weikle of Lothian, MD; and three grandchildren, Tyler Dotson, and Lauren and Nikki Mercier. Friends are invited to celebrate Charlie's life on Monday, June 20 from 2 to 4 and from 6pm until his funeral service begins at 7pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
