Charles E. Suhr - Obituary

harles E. Suhr passed away peacefully on March 25, 2022 at his home in Annapolis, MD. Charles, known as Chuck to his friends, was born August 5, 1934 to Norman Suhr and Marian Schiefer Suhr in Rochester, NY. He attended Fairport High School in Fairport, NY before going to Oberlin College in Ohio where he majored in history. While at Oberlin, he enjoyed his studies and was named to the All American Lacrosse Team. Upon graduating from Oberlin, he pursued post-graduate work at the University of New Hampshire and obtained a Masters of Education degree at George Washington University. Before entering his teaching career he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Suhr pursued his teaching career in Prince George’s County, MD and became principal of Mt. Rainier Jr. High and Suitland High School. He was married to Phyllis Lonegro Suhr and was the father of Jeanne Forney, Cynthia (Al) Rottini and Tom (Sarah) Suhr. He was the stepfather of Philip Greig and the late Bruce Greig. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Garland, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Upon retirement, Mr. Suhr pursued his love of antiques by establishing Suhrprise Shop Antiques. He was part of a large group shop in Annapolis and participated in antique shows from Maine to Tennessee. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, March 29 from 10-11 AM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomon’s Island Road, Edgewater. A memorial service conducted by Father Jeff Hual will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
