heryl Joanne Leman Jordan, 56, a resident of Edgewater for 18 years and previously of Bowie, died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) March 31 in her home after an illness lasting three years.
Mrs. Jordan was born June 23, 1951, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Leman. She earned a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Georgia in 1974, and her master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Maryland in 1984.
She was the director of burn rehabilitation therapy at the Washington, D.C., Hospital Center from 1979 to 1990; she then became involved with wildlife rehabilitation from 2000 to 2007.
She was a member of the board of trustees for the American Burn Association, where she received the Curtis Artz Distinguished Service Award. She was a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association, and a member of the Maryland Wildlife Rehabilitators Association, and served on the group's board of directors for two years.
Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Marion H. Jordan; one son, Harvey Jordan of Norcross, Ga.; and one stepdaughter, Holly Jordan of Tallahassee, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Burn Association, 625 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 2550, Chicago, IL 60611, to establish a non-physician ABA award in her honor.
