Clara Bell - Obituary

lara M. Drury Bell, 88, a resident of Ginger Cove in Annapolis, previously of Riva and Brentwood, MD, died July 29 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. She graduated from Margaret Brent High School in Helen, MD and came to the Washington, DC area at the age of 17. She worked for and retired from the U.S. Department of State. Clara was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and loved birds and flowers. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Bell who died in 2008; her mother, Bessie Long Drury and four brothers, Jesse Julian Drury, Henry M. Drury, Francis E. Drury, Jr. and B. J. Drury. Clara is survived by her son, Albert F. Scully, Jr.; one grandson, Kyle A. Scully; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail L. Scully; stepmother to four children, Bonnie M. Sakmar, John W. Bell, Leslie L. Koepsell and Richard E. Bell; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Mary Jane Bonham and Ruth A. Schuhart, and sisters-in-law, Hilda M. and Betty Drury. Friends are invited to Clara’s Life Celebration on Thursday, August 4, from 11AM until the funeral service begins at noon at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Inurnment Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
