Clare Baines - Obituary

lare Virginia Baines, 89, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her son’s home in Annapolis. Clare was born November 4, 1922, in Joliet, Illinois to the late Veronica and Joseph Smutnak. She was one of 11 children. In 1949, Clare married Richard John Baines and together they raised six children, mostly in Park Forest, Illinois. In 1968 they moved to the D.C. area. After Mr. Baines retired, they moved to New Mexico and Arizona. After her husband’s death, Clare moved to Bethany Beach, Delaware. Clare is survived by three sons, Timothy, Thomas and Edward Baines; three daughters, Nancy Castle, Jean Baines and Laury Todd;three sisters, Ann Nicks, Theresa Hornicak and Ellie Smutnak and one brother, Frank Smutnak. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, at 5pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 or to Save the Children, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880.
