A

fter an extended illness, dearly loved Clarence L. Washington known as Boomer or Wash peacefully fell asleep in death on December 22, 2015. Boomer was born in La Plata, Maryland to the late Alton and Louise Washington on July 6, 1929. The family relocated to Washington, DC in 1931. Boomer had six siblings, John, Raymond, Leonard, Anthony, Mary, and Julia. Boomer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 1952 and a Master’s of Science degree in Educational Psychology and Guidance in 1960. He was a Health and Physical Education teacher for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Boomer also served in the US Army on active duty for two years in Mason Korea, and twenty-one years in the US Army Reserves and promoted to the rank of Major. During his 35-year career, 225 athletes have received athletic scholarships to college and 12 players have been drafted by professional teams. Boomer was chosen as Coach of the Year in Chesterfield, VA. He was inducted into the Virginia State University Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and inducted in the DC Coaches Association in 1991. On his 80th birthday he was named the oldest African American member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Boomer was married to Maereen S. Washington in 1966. He and his wife loved to travel and spent much time at the Wilderness Resort with friends and family. Boomer leaves to cherish his memory to his beloved wife, Maereen Washington, one sister, Julia Parrish, one daughter, Sandra Bembry (Quentin), two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Henderson and Emma Eggleston, two grandsons, Damon Caldwell (LaTonia), Juan Caldwell (Kiana); one god son, Joe Boone, Jr.; five great grandchildren, Brittany, Kenny, Daja, Jaiyden, Jordyn, and a host of nieces, particularly Barbara Boone, nephews, friends, particularly Bobby Wills, and loved ones. Family and friends are invited to Boomer's Celebration of Life on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2210 Callaway St., Hillcrest Heights, MD 20748. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
