leo Burel Shaffer, Jr., a resident of Annapolis, MD since 1975 died on August 15, 2009 at his home of natural causes. Born June 11, 1951 in Winchester, IN, he worked as a government contractor as a message center operator for Alion (also known as IITRI). Mr. Shaffer served his country from 1970-74 in the United States Navy. His hobbies included collecting sports trading cards, softball, golf, NASCAR and he was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife of over 29 years, Elizabeth A. Shaffer; one son, Cleo “Chip” Burel Shaffer, III of Annapolis, MD; one daughter, Carrie L. Shaffer of Salisbury, MD; his stepmother, Verna Shaffer of Muncie, IN; two stepsisters Linda Barnes of Wisconsin and Deborah Norris of Muncie, IN; two stepbrothers, Larry Sherrell of Muncie, IN and Richard Sherrell of Iowa; he is also survived by 1 grandson, Alex Osiecki. He is predeceased by his father, Cleo Burel Shaffer, Sr. A memorial service will held on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 1:00pm at the United Church of Christ of Annapolis, 8 Carvel Circle, Edgewater, MD. Interment private.
