lyde Alderson
Clyde W. "Pops" Alderson, 72, a resident of Shady Side for 50 years, died of cancer June 2 at home after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 2, 1934, in North Carolina and the son of the late Kyle H. and Nellie E. Alderson, Mr. Alderson graduated from Southern High School and attended two years of college.
He worked as a union carpenter with Local 528.
He was a 30-year Moose member with a Pilgrim Degree, as well as a member of the 7th District Rescue Squad, Avalon Shores Fire Department, Moose Legion Chapter 155, DC Ramblers RV Club and the Indian Acres Security Reserves. He was a charter member of the Bay Area Moose Riders.
His interests included motorcycles.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte L. Alderson, whom he married June 21, 1953; four sons, Frank L. and Mark A. Alderson and Clyde "Billy" Alderson Jr., all of Shady Side, and Michael J. Alderson of Chester; three brothers, Kyle H. Alderson Jr. of Seabrook, James H. Alderson of Palm Coast, Fla., and Kenneth R. Alderson of Bradenton, Fla.; four sisters, Louise E. Campbell of Manassas, Va., Betty Jean Riley of Lancaster, Pa., Laura Alice Sandridge of Unionville, Va., and Barbara A. Bland of Gambrills; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Clarence E. Alderson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James' Episcopal Church Cemetery in Lothian. Friends and family should gather at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to form a procession beforehand.
