Concha Bassiwa - Obituary

C

oncha Alqueza Bassiwa passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. While our hearts are heavy with her absence, we find immense comfort in knowing she is finally at rest. Concha’s story began in San Narciso, Zambales, Philippines, where she was born on November 4, 1938, to Emiliano and Primitiva (Cabanban) Alqueza. One of six children, she is survived by her siblings, Herlina (Gregoria Manglicmot) and Oscar Alqueza. She now joins her parents and her sisters—Leticia (Fabie), Orvetta (Pamplona), and Avenia (Martinez)—in eternal peace. A devoted wife, mother, and matriarch, Concha was the heart of our family. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Lizamarie (Earl Echon), Grace (Art Caliguiran), Maribeth (Henry Green), and Regina (Mark Dixon). Her legacy of love lives on through her five grandchildren, Catherine, Candice, Alyssa, Christopher, and Tiare; her five great-grandchildren, Shaun, Jaerel, Cayron, Rizzo, and Kobe; and her loyal dog, Chewie. Concha is now reunited with her beloved husband, Armando Bunag Bassiwa, leaving us with memories we will cherish forever. We invite family and friends to join us as we celebrate her beautiful life and legacy. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Concha's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7804 Livingston Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment to follow immediately after service at Maryland Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham MD 20623. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Department of Aging of Charles County or the Alzheimer's Association
