dgewater resident Conrad Herbert Foerter, 89, died Friday, August 30, 2013. "Conny" was married to Adele Plosia Foerter for 62 years. They raised five children, Daniel, Beth, David, Thomas and Amy. Mr. Foerter was also a very proud grandfather of fifteen grandchildren as well as three great-grandchildren. Family was always his motivator and was a wonderful source of pride and affection. Mr. Foerter was proud to be a U.S. Navy Veteran and used this service to advance his education. He was a graduate of Rutgers University and earned a MS from Highlands University in New Mexico and also a MPH from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Mr. Foerter served twenty years with the U.S. Public Health Service, was a pioneer in public health and a college professor while developing experiments in hypnosis. His career also transitioned into a ten year tenure with the D.C. Department of Public Health. His expertise in Public Health was utilized for eight years at the University of Maryland as a grant writer. Conny grew up in Milltown, NJ and was a fifty two year resident of Maryland. He loved his front porch overlooking the water, his ROMEO's (Retired Old Men Eating Out), the South County Senior Center pool players, boating and the Washington Redskins. He had a big heart that could be found in every aspect of his life. He was an icon of goodness and was the happiest when he saw family and friends value each other, encouraged by his exemplary behavior and limitless support. Conny was a much loved patriarch who provided a continuous source of guidance, direction and inspiration for a large family. He was known for his big smile and genuine affection for everyone he met. A loving memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 7 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Lunch at his home will follow.
