onrad Henry Sommers, 84, a resident of Zanesville, OH and previously of Edgewater, MD died on Thursday, September 4 at his residence. Born on March 12, 1930 in Zanesville, Conrad was a 1949 graduate of Lash High School in Zanesville and later attended Montgomery Junior College in Takoma Park, MD. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mississippi during the Korean Conflict where he earned the Good Conduct and Korean War Medals. Conrad was a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW Post 304 and the Elks Lodge 622 all in Annapolis, MD and American Legion Post 226 in Mayo, MD. He enjoyed coin collecting, biking, swimming, tennis and hiking. Conrad was preceded in death by his wife, L. Jean Weller Sommers, who died on July 15, 1998. They were married on February 11, 1956. He is survived by a brother, Walter Sommers; a sister, Elizabeth Kessler and devoted friend, Marjorie Maier. Friends are invited to Conrad’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, September 10 from 10am until his funeral service begins at 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD.
