orinne Theresa Simmons, age 58, a 12 year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Bowie, died on Tuesday, August 2 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a two year battle with breast cancer. Born on March 30, 1954 in the Bronx, NY, Corinne has been a member of the Uniformed Services University family in Surgery (1984-1998), and served as Administrative Officer in Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) from 1998 until the present. Corinne worked for the Federal government for more than 33 years, and touched many lives throughout the University and elsewhere. Her ready smile, joyous laugh, institutional knowledge, willingness to help, and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Corinne was in many respects the backbone of our Department. She was there when faculty, students, or staff had a problem and did so much to contribute to the education of students who will go on to help others. She fought bravely against breast cancer until the end, and when several of us who visited talked about work even in her last days, she perked up with interest. Corinne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis and a former member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie. She is survived by her husband of thirty six years, Wayne S. Simmons; a son, Wayne J. Simmons of Odenton; a daughter, Alison N. Simmons of San Rafel;, CA; her parents, Joseph and Theresa Dominici of Millsboro, DE; a brother, Joseph Dominici of Bowie; two sisters, Toni Ann Dominici of Lanham and Gerri Burt of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; her mother in law, Patricia Simmons of College Park and two sisters in law, Patricia Bradshaw of Fairfax, VA and Peggy Wagner of Crofton. Friends are invited to Corinne’s Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, August 7 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Annapolis, MD on Wednesday, August 8 at 10:30am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265.
