arl G. Walko, Sr. “Cotton”, 94, a resident of Edgewater, MD since 1974 and previously of Bradbury Heights, MD, died on Sunday, May 23 at his home. Born on April 24, 1927 in Washington, DC to the late Charles J. and Laura A. Walko, Cotton served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He worked as an inspector with the federal government for many years and in his spare time enjoyed wood carving and was the Dock Master at Beach 3. Cotton was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Peggy L. Walko. He is survived by his children, Carl G. Walko, Jr. and Casey Spicer both of Edgewater, MD, Sherry Thompson of Mechanicsville, MD and Kelly Gordon of West River, MD; his grandchildren, Mike, Robbie and Laura Thompson, RC Spicer, Woody and Kay Walko, Robbie and Krystal Gordon, Dennis Moore, Lorie Pavkov and Karen Burnett and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Cotton's life on Tuesday, June 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2 at 11am. Interment will be private at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403 or a veteran's organization of your choosing.
