ourtney Lee Fridley, 89, a resident of New Carrollton, MD for over 46 years and previously of West Lanham Hills, MD died on July 9, 2008 at Tate Hospice House of natural causes after a lengthy illness. Born on February 24, 1919 in Clifton Forge, VA, he received a degree in drafting from Columbia Tech. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the 77th Infantry and participated in the invasion of Guam, two invasions in the Philippines, Ie Shima, and Okinawa. He earned two purple hearts and a bronze star. He worked for the United States Post Office as a postal carrier in Washington, D.C., retiring from there in September of 1980. He was a member of the American Legion in Greenbelt and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). His hobbies included camping, travel and music. Beloved husband of the late Mary Frances Fridley, whom he married on July 30, 1949 and who died on October 15, 1998; father of Dr. Arthur C. Fridley of Shady Side, MD and Donna Lee Lilly of Glen Dale, MD; brother of Donald and Thomas Fridley both of Millboro, VA, Marjorie Taylor of Charlottesville, VA and the late Rodney Fridley; grandfather of Stacey Rainbolt and Jason Lilly; great grandfather of Isabella and Olivia Lilly. Friends are invited to Mr. Fridley's Life Celebration on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD from 11am until time of funeral service at 1pm. Inurnment Arlington National Cemetery on August 6, 2008 at 11am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
