PO Crisogono Mayo (USN-Retired) Crisogono “Cris” Mayo, 92, of Clinton, MD, passed away on May 14, 2015. Born on January 28, 1923 in Baguio City, Philippines to the late Horacio and Lucia Mayo. Crisogono was a Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. Chief Mayo retired in 1975 after 30 years of service in the Navy. His career began in 1945 in Subic Bay, Philippines, where he completed Recruit Training. After completing this training, he faithfully served in the following locations. Headquarters Navy 100, London, England USS Columbus, Plymouth, England USS Macon, Norfolk, Virginia USS DesMoines, Norfolk, Virginia USS Quincy, Norfolk, Virginia USS Reclaimer, Honolulu, Hawaii USS Lyman K. Swenson, Long Beach, California USS Shangri-La, San Diego, California Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland United States Naval Air Facility, Lajes, Azores USS Walworth County, Little Creek, Virginia United States Naval Station, Washington D.C. Navy Department, Washington, D.C. Naval Air Facility, Washington, D.C. Chief Mayo was a World War II Veteran and also received several Good Conduct Medals, a World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Faustina Gacad Mayo; father of Victoria Francis (Paul Francis), Patricia Nibert (Robert Nibert), Michael Mayo. Brother of Cornelia Mayo. Grandfather of Sheri Francis, Tara Nibert Strain (Jeremy Strain), BJ Nibert, Lindsay Nibert, Katie Francis, Steven Hepler; Great-grandfather of Ella Faye Strain, Olivia Marie Strain. Relatives and friends are invited to Cris’ Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Thursday, May 21 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. On Friday, a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 8908 Old Branch Avenue, Clinton, MD. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 1pm.
