ynthia Ann Merryman Steuart passed away on Wednesday, November 6 at her home in Huntingtown, MD. Born on March 14, 1941 in Jarrestsville, MD to the late Kenneth and Ruby Merryman, Cynthia grew up on a dairy farm in Harford County, MD. As a young child, Cynthia was an active member of 4-H and a consummate musician playing the piano, organ, and clarinet. During the summers of her youth, Cynthia would attend Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD for advanced lessons in piano, organ and voice. Cynthia graduated from North Harford High School in 1959 and attended nursing school at Union Memorial Hospital from 1959 to 1962. Cynthia would later attend and graduate from the University of Maryland in 1972. Cynthia was married to her late husband of 62 years, R. Calvert “Cal” Steuart on April 28, 1962 and moved to Prince George’s County, MD that same year. Cynthia worked in the nursing field as a public health nurse with the Prince George’s County Health Department and would later become a teacher in the Prince George’s County School System. She taught at Frederick Sasscer High School, James Madison Middle School and Frederick Douglas High School. After her teaching career, Cynthia was one of the initial founders of ADR, Alcohol and Drug Recovery. Later, in putting family first, she left ADR and helped her husband run his law firm and title company, Steuart Law and Atlantic Coast Title, Inc. Cynthia and Cal were blessed with three children, Brooke Elizabeth Steuart Swann (1969), Brian Edward Steuart (1969) and Charles Todd Merryman Steuart (1970) and she had the fortune of having 12 grandchildren who love her dearly! Cynthia was a member of the Calvert Elks Lodge 2620, Calvert County Lions Club, Republican Women of Calvert County, National Federation of Republican Women and Huntingtown United Methodist Church. Cynthia is survived by her two children, 12 grandchildren, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law. Cynthia can now rest in peace with her husband and love of her life – Cal. Memorial service for Cynthia Ann Merryman Steuart will be held on Sunday, November 17 at 1 pm at Huntingtown United Methodist Church, 4020 Hunting Creek Road, Huntingtown, MD. A reception will follow.
