arrell L. Henry, 73, of the Annapolis area since 1957, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on August 16, 2013. He was born on February 6, 1940 in Cumberland where he was a 1957 graduate of Ft. Hill High School. He then went on to graduate from St. Johns College in Annapolis in 1961 before earning a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1964. Beginning in 1965, Darrell became the county’s first zoning hearing officer, and then went into private practice in 1971. He was a member of the Anne Arundel Bar Association and the Elks Lodge #622 in Edgewater. Darrell loved gardening, collecting antiques, listening and singing to music, watching baseball and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by a wife, Linda Worth, who died in 1979, and a brother, Delysle Henry.
Surviving him are his wife of 22 years, Mettie Smith; four children, Renee Montgomery and Cheryl Fawcett of Annapolis, Ted Henry of Baltimore and Ben Henry of Annapolis; he is also survived by three grandchildren, Maxwell Montgomery, Ethan and Sophia Fawcett.
Friends and family are invited to Darrell's Life Celebration on Thursday, August 22 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23 at 11:00AM at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Rd., Edgewater. Interment is private.
