D

avid Alan Dryer, age 99, a resident of Ginger Cove in Annapolis, MD since 1999 and a veteran of World War II, died on November 2, 2008, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born on October 20, 1909 in Washington, DC to the late Adelbert and Vernah Dryer. He attended the George Washington University where he received both his BA and MA degrees. He worked primarily for the Children's Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor on enforcement of child labor laws. On May 3, 1939, he entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. He served at Ft. Lee, VA and spent 29 months in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (North Africa, Sicily, Corsica, Italy), returning to the U.S. in March 1946. He later joined the Army Reserve from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was employed by the Veterans Administration as a Training Officer; the Office of Chief of Finance for the Department of the Army; the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Transportation Corps; and the Inspector General Office of the Army Materiel Command where he retired in December 1966. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved from Washington, DC to Edgewater, MD in 1967 where they remained until moving to Ginger Cove. His interests included woodworking, reading, crossword puzzles, travel and church activities. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Annapolis, MD, where he and his wife sang in the choir for many years. He was a Master Mason, a member of Annapolis Lodge #89, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, Knight of the Commandery of the York Rite and a Shriner of Boumi Temple, Baltimore, MD. He was also a member of Annapolis Chapter #121 of National Sojourners, Inc. and a member of Chapter #46, Order of the Eastern Star of Annapolis. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Dryer, whom he married on November 23, 1957, his nephew, Stanley G. Green, of Ginger Cove and his great nephew, Steven M. (Christy) Green, of Edgewater, MD. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy G. Green and Mildred V. Dryer. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West Street, Annapolis, MD, where services will be held on Friday, November 7, at 11:00A.M.
