David Heard - Obituary

avid Mitchell Heard, 72, a thirty-eight year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of New Carrollton, MD passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 15 at his home. Born on September 12, 1943 in Lowell, MA, David graduated from Northwestern High School in 1961 and from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in business. He worked as a supervisor with Verizon for 36 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Crabtown Squares Dance Club for 22 years, serving as president for the past 6 years and volunteered with the Maryland State Department of Natural Resources. David enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, golfing, politics and football- both real and fantasy. He was incredibly loyal, generous and witty. He will be missed. David is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Heard whom he married on December 19, 1965; his loving daughters, Michelle Pepersack of Williamsburg, VA and Jeanette Machen of Mt. Airy, MD; his beloved parents, Rebecca Alice Wood and Joe Mitchell Heard, Jr. of Waynesboro, VA; his cherished grandson, Nicholas Grey Machen and numerous nephews and cousins. David was preceded in death by his sister, Sallie Hodgkinson. Friends are invited to celebrate David's life on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21 at 11am. Interment will be private.
